Fire Emblem

Postby Raven » 21 Mar 2010, 04:50

I mean, I haven't played Fire Emblem in like a year myself, but I'd like to have an incentive to get back into it. I'd love to have discussions here about it no matter how simple and beyond the "I've played fire emblem and i love yatta yatta" stuff. I mean in depth crap like my friend Rex (GoldenMisdreavus, he hasn't posted in like a week) and I tend to have on IRC.

in fact, i'll pick up my copy of FE6 now and play the hell out of hard mode. i'll attempt to rank it again, hopefully I'll get an S rank this time (instead of an A rank last time. somehow I got a B in funds and an A in EVERYTHING ELSE the first time i tried it ranked). maybe i'll even do FE7 ranked at some point, or at least try my best to get through HHM without arenas. and i'll keep a log.

since FE1-FE5 are boring (don't get me wrong, I adored FE3-FE5, i just find it hard to play them sometimes), I'll do this. An FE6-FE11 playthrough, first to beat FE11 wins. I want to challenge people who are up for it.

Let's say,

FE6, Normal/Hard Mode (take your pick)
FE7, Hector Normal/Hard Mode (after doing Lyn's hard mode)
FE8, go down Ephraim's path on Hard mode
FE9, Hard Mode
FE10, Normal/Hard mode (I would do normal myself)
FE11, Hard 1+

If you can't do a couple of these games, that's perfectly fine. The point is a race to see who can finish FE6 first, then when we're all finished with FE6 we move onto 7, then 8, then 9, then 10, then 11. No shame in joining only for a couple games and then pulling out. I'm willing to go through all 6, myself.

Hypothetically, this challenge thing will start in April and we'll take about 3 weeks per game.

Fire Emblem is awesome. I've played every game (but only beaten 4 and all games from 6 to 11) and I'm actually replaying FE9 right now.

This challenge thing in April won't really work out for me though, as I'll be gone big parts of that month on vacation... >_<

Oh, and I only actually OWN the games from 7-11 >_<

to be honest, it's not so much a challenge as a casual runthrough. and there's not a high turnout of this so idk if it'll actually happen.

i should add that i haven't played fire emblem in like a year either

Yes, there doesn't seem to be many FE fans around here... D=

Oh well, I just recruited Devdan in FE9. I've promoted all of the guys I use except for Mist (level 16 8)) and Ike and Volke (lol). Also, I'm using every weapon knight/paladin in the game, hopefully I'll get them all to 20/20 so I can compare them.

I have Path of Radiance, haven't completed it yet but it's definitely a interesting game. But I don't really like the "if he dies then he's gone forever" because I don't want anyone to die and thus I have to play certain stages over and over again before I succeed in not having anyone killed... heh.

But yeah, great series. I highly think about getting Shadow Dragon to DS...

thing about shadow dragon is that most characters suck HORRIBLY and that it doesn't matter if they die... in fact, it's beneficial because their items get sent to your inventory and you get access to more maps and items if you have less than 15 people after certain chapters.

radiant dawn is better than shadow dragon, imo

This is my opinion of all the games:

FE1: Ooold and pretty meh
FE2: Requires you to powerlevel many many hours
FE3: Seems good but I haven't played it that much.
FE4: AWESOME! Very broken system but fun as hell.
FE5: Haven't played it that much, but seems pretty cool.
FE6: awsum
FE7: awsum
FE8: Okay.
FE9: awsum
FE10: Kinda meh IMO... okay I guess.
FE11: I played the Japanese version and it's kinda fun. I should replay it in English some day...

FE1 and 2 are archaic and haven't aged well. FE3 is good, but there's like revamped NES style graphics on it that really bother me. FE4 is okay in my opinion; graphics are a step up from FE3 (a huge step up) and the gameplay shaped modern fire emblem, but overall it's kind of a boring game with mechanics that will fly over your head if you don't have a guide handy

5 shaped a couple aspects of modern fire emblem, but christ if you play this, don't expect it to be like any other fire emblem game. FE5 takes every chance it gets to screw you over, destroy you, or anything to that extent. it is one of the hardest games i've ever played, and what makes it worse is that god seems to hate you every single second you play this game. and there's some things it's implemented so you don't overuse powerful characters and some other stuff that encourages strategy... like, seriously, if you want I am 100% willing to go through everything wrong with this game that makes it feel so amazing and right. and when you finally beat it, you will feel like a boss.

FE6 is amazing, FE7 is the same mechanics as FE6 (well, a couple minor differences, like different stat caps and thief class promotion) but it's not as good. FE6 is amazing. FE6 is amazing. one of my favorite in the series. FE8 is the same exact engine as FE7 in many ways, although it renews branch promotion and the map system from FE2, with a crappy plot. It's also really easy, but it's okay at best.

FE9 is amazing plot-wise, has a great ambiance, and the gameplay is pretty good too. FE10 isn't as good as FE9 plotwise (a couple things are good about FE10's plot, many things are not) but the gameplay is much better and harder. It's a bit more refined, too.

FE11 kinda sucks. it's FE1 except with higher stat caps, more promotion, and the class swap system. The maps and enemies and stuff are very very similar to FE1, and the dialogue is more or less the same too. There are a couple additions, but overall it feels like a slow game that doesn't really give you any sort of feeling of accomplishment when you do it. I guess some people find it fun, but i find it boring and painful to beat.
