Because you can only challenge one Gym leader at the time, you have to formally cancel your challenge by posting a message like this:

"Because of ...... I would like to withdraw my challenge to this gym"

in the relevant gym topic.
Make sure mention the reason why you are retracting your challenge. That way after Gym leader gives his or her agreement, you can go and challenge some other gym.

That's correct. You either have to challenge the leader or cancel your challenge to him first.

We have told you several times now, you can only challenge ONE gym at a time, it should not be very difficult for you to connect the dots!
If you challenge a gym, you have to finish that challenge first, by finish I mean you need to have a match with the gym leader, irrelevant of the match result, BEFORE you go challenge other gyms. No more, no less.
