Racing Games

Topic for racing games

What kind of racing games do you own? Do you like racing games? Do you prefer arcade or simulator type of game?

My personal favorite is Need For Speed series and Blur that just got out last year.
I've been playing pretty much every Need For Speed that came out, so I guess I'm kind of a insane NFS gamer chick. Even tho I'm not too big fan with Pro Street and Shift, since NFS is purely arcade based racing game, and if I want really good racing simulate game, NFS is definitely not the right way to go. I especially enjoyed Underground 2, Most Wanted and now the newest; Hot Pursuit. Actually I'm addicted to it. :D I have spent way too many hours in a row just by playing it online. And if anyone else happens to have that game, send me a PM and I'll race you online ;>

Blur is another interesting game, powered up racing and especially when playing online with 19 other players, fun really begins. It's nice change when Need For Speed starts to get boring, since Blur is all about pure racing, even tho power ups are really big part of the whole concept. I highly recommend this for those who like arcade type of racing games.. it's a beautiful game. Tho most of the fun comes out of the online racing. But I think that's just the future, every game is going online.

Anyway, let's make a discussion!

I've been playing the NFS series since i got my PC, back on 2004. I've literally played everyone of them until Pro Street, since my PC isn't powerful enough to handle the rest of them(Damn and i want to play NFS World so badly, lol).
Anyway, my personal favorite is Most Wanted, mainly because the cops are actually hard to beat on the higher heat levels, and cause it's story is the longest and most interesting. Modifying the trax so that it plays only Decadence and spending hours in front of our screens was a kinda sick hobby of mine and Zeus198 back then 8-) . Carbon was cool too, regardless of what some people on the net say. It introduced the actual tier system and gave performance limitations to cars, something that Most Wanted did on a minimal degree, and was its only drawback. Carbon's main drawback were the easy cops, as getting a 3M bounty was really easy.Oh, and canyon drift ftw. Underground 2 was ok, though it was more about pimping your ride than racing, and no cops to ram :( . Prostreet introduced car damage, though that was all about it, and i could actually drive my beloved Camaro on a drag race, smoking Shelbies and Supras. Games like the original HP and the rest of them, were ok, not as exciting as the ones i mentioned above though.
Also i once wanted to play Burn Out Paradise and Grid , though my PC failed again, lol.

Racing games? I love them :D

Like I imagine many others to think, the NFS series are also my favorite series of racing games. I have far from played them all, but still a number. The ones I have tried so far are; Underground 2, Most Wanted, Undercover and World. Underground 2 and Most Wanted are my two favorites, where Undercover seemed like sort of a disappointment, and World a complete failure. (IMO) Underground 2 was the first NFS game I ever played, and I remember playing it in school, doing the beginning of Career mode(The very easiest part) and winning every race without trouble where the younger kids would stand there and watch while I upgraded my car, etc. My time with this game, gives me nostalgia playing it, even today.

Most Wanted is however also brilliant, as it introduced to me, the first police car chase in a racing game ever. Aside from that it was generally fun to build up your bounty, even though I got kind of tired of the low difficulty at heat level one when you were driving around in a Corvette xD

I didn't really play Undercover a lot, and only tried it at a friend's place, and I can only say that I wasn't impressed enough to go buy it.

I installed World after finding out that there was actually a free to play NFS game online! :O
Spoiler: Show
I must admit it was fun at the beginning, but the capability of starting a new profile kinda made it too easy for me, since I with my first account made the fault of buying the Dodge Challenger at lvl 5(The one with the highest stats), found out it was horrible to drive, and at the second I went online to check which car from Tier 1 was the best. First time I had just chosen the one with the highest stats which is the Mazda, and it seemed fast, but I kept wondering why I kept losing to Nissan S15's with WAY lower stats than my own car. I could see that, even though I drove my race perfectly, that both acceleration and top speed of the little Nissan was way higher than mine dispite my stats being well over 100 higher. This totally ruined the game for me. I can understand there can be differences in each car's performance, but with the numbers going that way, you are almost forced to go online to check which car is the best to get. And so I did, and found that S15 was the answer. I started owning everyone, except for nooby high-levels that joined low-level races to "find parts" as they excused themselves with.

There was however one last thing that in the end made me stop playing the game, after countless irritations. And that is; the physical conflict between cars. First of all, when at least I drive in a race, all of my opponent's cars make strange movements to each side, even though they are driving straight forward. This way, when overtaking someone it is very hard to judge when they are trying to drive into you. And it's been some times now, that I've ended on the roof of the car because they suddenly out of nowhere are slamming me into the side of the street.

Personally, I'd find it an improvement to the game, if there was no physical conflict at all; this way, it would all be about how well to manage on the track.

Just my opinion.

I love the Trackmania games.
Other than that, Mario Kart is always fun, and - if it counts - I'll mention the racing minigames in Lego Universe, too. :B

O man... Awesome times back then. Just putting "decadence" on playing unstoppably and i remember us pressing the nitro button till it ran out when it got to the chorus.... ;)
Anyway, the NFS series would be in the top five titles of all the games i've ever played. Although, my favorite of them is the "Most wanted". I mean this game got almost everything you need in a car racing game: a lot of races, different kinds of street racing, cool plot and cops all over you when on free roam. I loved it when all those cops with their corvettes and SUVs were trying to bust you when you were "extra hot" and you.... you were just toying with them, driving your Dodge Viper around....
I really loved that game but i was unable to follow the series up until now, cause my PC couldn't support it.... :?
Other games on the same category that i've played are Burn Out, Mario kart and another one with sonic and friends but it is so long ago that i don't remember the title... All cool games , but as already mentioned, nothing like NFS... 8-)

when people can truly understand one another... "
